Can One Idea Change The World?
That is the question I asked myself while sitting in my home office one morning, getting ready to pick up the phone to start making my daily phone calls.
My life was in an interesting place; I had just gotten out of real estate as a top producing real estate agent about 6 months earlier so that I could go back to focusing on music (and to let the market crash).
Music was great, but I wasn't making the kind of money that I wanted [my wife was making more than me and neither one of us was very happy about that].
I knew that even though I had achieved some of the goals that I had set out to as a music artist, I was struggling to hit my financial goals and I wasn't getting any younger! So, I decided to put my marketing skills to work.
I soon became the marketing manager for a kitchen and bath remodeling company, helping them to make huge amounts of money in a very short time, only to watch it implode and disappear just as quick.
Fortunately, before it had fallen apart, I had been offered another of my dream jobs as a full time music teacher. I was so excited that I quickly took the position, only to be let go a month later as the music company closed it's doors.
So there I was.
Sitting at home. Contemplating the twists and turns of life.
Knowing in the back of my mind that my mom was quickly dying of cancer, and there seemed to be nothing that I could do about it.I felt sad.
Hopeless.
Ashamed.
I wanted to be able to give my mom the best doctors and best support possible, but I could barely pay my own bills at that point.
One day, I grabbed a handful of my latest CD albums and went to the corner of the freeway onramp to try to make some money to help with rent that month. I stayed a couple hours, didn't sell any, and slowly road my skateboard back home.
I did get another job, this time, working for my dad and uncle's new company in the telecom industry.I didn't know anything about telecom, had no interest in it, but also had nothing better at that point so I said sure, let's do it.
Plus, I could be a telemarketer from home, which suited me just fine. The job was easy,, just cold-calling and setting appointments all day, which for me, is actually kind of fun. Not as much fun as teaching kids music, or rocking a dance floor, or selling a house, but it has it's perks.
For one, I didn't have to leave the house, which was great for my hermit lifestyle.Second, I could stay in my pajamas ALL DAY LONG. Jealous? I know.
Third, I could eat and or whatever pretty much most of the day. So, it would work for now. But still, I wanted MORE. As I thought about my mom, I couldn't help but want to do something, ANYTHING, to help her.
What if I could change something, just by changing my mind?Dr. Wayne Dyer said, "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."Hmmm.
Well, what if I changed the way I looked at this situation? What if there WAS something that I could do?What if it was EASY to make the change? What if my idea to change the world was creating an opportunity for people to share an idea instantly to the world?
Oh, like the internet?
Yes, just like the internet. In fact, thanks to social media it has never been easier to share ideas with the world. Or, at least our each little piece of it.
Some have more friends, influence and/or resources than others, so sharing an idea might not spread as far.
So, I had this idea...
What if I could make it really, REALLY easy for someone to get their idea published?
How many people would take the time to actually do it?
How many people who have had reasons for not doing it in the past, would set aside 10 minutes or less to accomplish a dream?
I want to find out, don't you?
So here we are.
Are you gonna do it?
Make it happen!
Take ACTION!
Carpe Diem!
