Gandhi, non-violence

yesterday Elaine ur told me a disturbing thing. Actually, so did my aunt and uncle. Apparently Elena is mom’s boyfriend had grabbed her butt.

she had told me before that he may have done it accidentally and so we let it go. But now apparently he had done it to my aunt and four other women at this party.

my male instincts kick in and I thought of all the ways I would physically hurt him and or make sure he had some kind of horrific accident.

on and off the rest of the night I thought of what I would say to him next time I see him.

I am NOT violent by nature but somehow this start a deep cord.

I am NOT violent by nature but somehow this struck a deep cord.

this morning when I woke up, I was reading the Eighth Habit by Stephen Covey and the chapter starts off with a story about Gandhi.

he tells about Gandhi being thrown off a bus for the color of his skin. At first Gandhi was furious and wanted to physically retaliate. But then he realized that that was not the way to go.

then he considered going back to his home town where everybody was the same and he could just blend back in.

but he decided that 1 must face their troubles.

finally, he came to the conclusion that he must remain non violent and would figure out what to do from this mental state.

his granddaughter was the 1 that told this story and she said that Ghandi might not have even become the man he did if not for the racism.

this conflict is what brought him to this point and is what gave him the opportunity to lift himself and a nation.
